I too am sorry for the rant but please guys, someone stop these 'death to OLP' threads???? I come here because I am a fan and always will be, not to hear you people tear them down... here's a hint: www.olpsucks.com.... someone go buy that domain and make your own fuckin whine fest......

See, this is the weird part. I have nothing against people likeing Gravity. If they do, that's great for them! I'm not saying that they SHOULDN'T express their love for the album, so why should they tell me not to if i feel the opposite way? Hence: I don't agree with a word you're saying, but I'll defend to death your right to say it.

I wasn't even going to post anything in this topic cause it has all been said before. I couldn't even get thorugh all the post in here.

I do want to however call attention to a few things written in here.

1) the bands most of you mentioned( who take request etc) aren't in the same caliber as OLP. they don't have the same thing. They are lesser known bands who haven't gotten to the status OLP has yet. That is why they are able to paly REQUEST or talk longer. BTW, I jsut saw OLP in Cleveland last weekend and Steve must of spent 1/2 hour talking to fans before the show-Jeremy at least 1 hour after the show-this on top of 2 meet and greets at the show.

for your informantion I have been to a few shows where OLP took request from the audience. They concentrate on the new songs. Yes, there are some older songs you want to see done again, but let's face it, how many bands with the exception of few(and even they don't do stuff people want to hear) do songs people want to hear. I can't evne tell you how many times we asked bands we met to play songs.

2) I don't know what bands you are refering to, but the only major band i know that changes their set form night to night is PEARL JAM> Most bands play a *SETLIST* that doesn't really change form night to night. Hey I once saw an artist( I won't name them, but they are a HUGE INTERNATIONAL STAR) who played the same set in Feb then again when they toured in NOvember.

3) I have to disagree on the Live CD being mostly gravity songs. there are 16 songs on LIVE- only 5 are form gravity and 1 post gravity the rest (10) songs are pre-gravity. Last time I checked 10 was more then 5. SO how can it be mostly Gravity songs. There are more songs from 1995-2001 era, then gravity.

4) to say that all HARDCORE fans dislike Gravity, the new songs, the direction the band is going is off the mark. NOT ALL FANS feel the same as you. I know I don't so I can't be lumped in with that.

I know people were disappointed with OLP from gravity on. SO be it, but to think that every DIEHARD, HARDCORE fan feels that way. there are many who still LOVE THE BAND

I always thought a fan meant supporter. When you support someone you do through good and bad. I just feel that too many don't liek OLP now and feel everyone feels that way.

there are 14 tracks and 15 songs on live. there are 5 from gravity, 2 from naveed, 2 from clumsy, 2 from happiness, 2 from sm and 2 rarities. the number of gravity songs shouldn't be compared to how many other songs there are but how many others were chosen from different albums. apparently there are more than twice as many songs from gravity than there are from any other album on there, therefore it is mostly from gravity.

plus, why didn't you ever use any question marks?

Tis Live album debate seems to be a semantical misunderstanding. When sonmeone said most of the songs are from Gravity, they didn't mean that in comparison to the 14 tracks, but rather compared to the number that any other album received. Gravity is the newest release however so it makes sense that they put newer songs on because that is what they are playing now in concert.

"Fan" just means that you like, in this case, the music. Someone may be a fan of the first four albums, but not anything beyond that. You shouldn't feel obligated to like everything the band does just because you like what they've done before. To each his own, as they say.

The bands I go see play the same venues that OLP played in Detroit a year ago. They manage to change their setlists. Just because they don't have a top 40 hit like OLP has doesn't mean they're not as big. In 2001 OLP sold out a 1500 person venue. I now go to see these "lesser known" bands and they sell out a place that holds 2000 people. OLP is on a major label, and the bands I like aren't. I'm sorry, but look at the facts, just because OLP gets major airplay doesn't mean they're any more popular in Detroit, their largest supporting city in America, than the stuff I listen to.

So yes, people can change setlists. It's not hard to try and learn some different songs. Going to a show and knowing what 19 songs will be played before the first opening band takes the stage is sad. Variety isn't something bad, it should be done more often.

I think what Psycho groupie meant by that was not that by being a supporter of the band that you had to like everything they did, but more that instead of denoucing them as one of your favorites the second they make a few songs (or a cd..) you don't like or have a period of not-the-best concerts, you stick with them and listen to the stuff you do like and hope they start to get better again.. then again, I could be wrong

agreed

OLP is just now starting to play large venues in the US this year

for the most part they 've played clubs before this year

obviously its different in canada where they have been popular for longer, but it remains the same.

the reason why people like me and alan are starting to dislike some of the music and the band is because they are now playing those big venues, like stadiums and such, and shows like that just aren't personal, no matter where you are in the crowd. the music, IMO, has gone downhill, not only lyrically but musically as well.

in other words, OLP from naveed and clumsy era compared to gravity era was just better, plain and simple.

the shows were smaller and more personal, and the music from those albums ( up to, including SM) was amazing. gravity put them into the main stream, because it IS mainstream rock. and for fans of the first 4 albums.... OLP is not mainstream. its part of their allure, that they aren't part of that whole corporate music crap. but they dont have that anymore.
its sad.
the music industry claims another band.
