so i got mine out on thursday, and they hurt for the first few days, but over all seemed really fine. Now, on the left lower one, now that the stitches are gone, it looks (and feels) like my gum was sliced and then ripped open. The wound goes all the way to where my gum and cheeks meet, so it hurts to open my mouth all the way.

Surgery and wisdom teeth removal are a bit different - yeah it's "surgery" of a kind, but you should be able to open your jaw fully after a few weeks.  That's how long it took me.  I was stuck eating really thin sandwiches and small pieces of soft meat for a couple weeks until I could finally get my jaw open without making myself die.
