First, try scanning with Trend Micro's Housecall

It sometimes catches things other scanners won't. And most importantly, it's free!

Ok, virus problem solved!

Mow here's another one.

I got a new computer for Christmas which is super sweet. I have all of my tv shows on my old computer, though, and I want to transfer them over because downloading them all again is going to take months. Burning them onto a dvd isn't an option because the dvd burner from the old computer is now in the new one. I thought about just taking the second hard drive out of the old one but, nope, that won't work either because the new computer has different hookups for the hard drive.

Both computers are hooked up to a router (along with my two brothers' laptops) so... yeah... anything I can do?

edit: both computers are running winxp pro and are on dsl. if that makes a difference.

If they're hooked up to a router, you should be able to transfer the files directly over.

Are your computers set up as a network?

But if you have any questions, I or someone else may be able to help.

Once you have a network set up, just share your music/TV shows/whatever folders (right click -> sharing and security), then go on your new computer on "my network places", and you can drag & drop the files, just as if you were moving between folders on one computer.

or do a google search with convert m4a to mp3 software and you will get hundreds of free programs.

Cept, don't do that cos most things you download in flac format are in flac for a reason.

ok, this is an incredibly stupid and probably simple question. I just got a laptop with xp and i was wondering how i can change it so that when i open up xp, i have to input a password, cause right now, i don't have to give a password.

My Computer -> Control Panel -> User Accounts

Then you click on your profile (there should be like a default one .. or one that you made, I don't know), then you should be able to set/change your password and make it password protected.

ok, I downloaded The Good, The Bad and The Ugly with bittorrent as an .avi. Ok, that's all well and good, it's great quality, but now I want to burn it to a DVD so I don't always have to watch it on my computer.

Problem is it's too big for the blank DVDs that I have. I've been using Nero and it tried to make the file smaller or something on its own, but couldn't make it small enough to fit onto the DVDs (I believe they're 4.something GB)

So what would be the best way to compress the file without losing -too- much quality?

One option is to buy a dual layer dvd burner. You can find them on newegg.com for around 40 dollars US. Most all movies are going to be on dual layer discs which are 8.5gb, compared to standard blank dvd's that are 4.7gb. The catch is that blank dual layer discs are way more expensive, running close to 10 dollars per disc. If you can convert the avi to dvd files first (.vob) and make a folder for it on your hard drive, you can use a program called DVD Shrink to lower the file size to fit on a standard blank dvd. You can find some tutorials and instructions on www.videohelp.com .

Hey guys, a question for all of you iPodders out there. I have about three computers (a laptop home PC and my gfs laptop that I use on a regular basis). Each computer has different songs on it, and I was wondering if there is a way to only upload songs that I don't have (or better yet choose the songs I want to upload) onto my iPod. Is there a way or program that will allow me to do this?
