New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

Oh, there definitely were many people saying that! I was 16 and remember it vividly. Nonetheless, everyone loved it anyway!

I remember liking it more because my parents were so confused by the lyrics - they were "what do they mean - world's a subway, and what the hell does their name mean?" I felt like a cool teenage rebel I told them it was too profound for them to understand.

My first pass trying to figure out the lyrics. Many question marks so far. What do other people hear?

Here is my thoughts and fixes on the lyrics you posted a while back...still some tough ones to make out

Boxing helps. I guess, I think it toughens your mind. I think you push yourself beyond certain limits, past [?]. The worst thing in the world is to be in a fight and to get tired. You don't want to get tired in a fight.

No matter how much natural ability you have there's a lot of working at it. You know, you don't need... Muhammad Ali was a great fighter but if he didn't train as hard as he did, he... you'd never hear the name Muhammad Ali [....become?]. You have to train hard, you have to devote yourself one hundred percent.

You can't be a success if you don't have [any part of?] discipline. You need discipline to do things. And the discipline is you do it without things, you know?

No matter if we say we believe this, we believe that, you know... there's certain things we believe. But just how strongly we believe is a matter, you know... it's what we want to believe. A force much stronger than us, a power much more powerful, you know? But we still don't know. No matter how much we think we believe, we still tremor at the thought of dying. [?] we shiver [?] almost died, you know? There's something out there. But just to me it's like the great unknown. You know? I don't know.

One of the most important things in life is to have people who care about you, and you care about, you know... Love is the magic word, it is, you know? If it wasn't for love I wouldn't be here today

^Agreed. Still best when listened to as part of the collection, I think. I also share your opinion on AFAYC. What is your feeling as to why it falls short for you?

afayc is a good song, I do like it, but it sounds like it should be on a cd with fight the good fight. I find it the most out of place on the album. I just feel like everything else is much more tight niche. I like the song itself, I just don't love it like some of the other songs on the album. My biggest problem with it is I view it as taking grocery lists place... But that isn't really a complaint about the song itself, just a preference.

And of course we all know how much FITHH changed, but I find it interesting how that song was done, and done for a while, and then shortly before the album was finalized they went in to re-work it. I wonder how that decision was made?

My guess:

The Wolf had a very cookie cutter structure. I know a lot of people liked it, and so did I (but for me it was always about the instruments and the verses). I always thought The Wolf had quite a bit in common with Where Are You and All You Did Was Save My Life -- the exact ground that the band didn't want to re-tread -- and it was all due to the chorus. Maybe The Wolf was a better song than those others, but I think it would have fallen short of what they're trying to do with this album and somewhere along the way they realized this. I think the new chorus, and the a capella section where a guitar solo used to be, is so much more interesting.

It's one of my favourite moments on that track, actually... I don't think it's a blurb It sounds like they were very particular on everything that went into these songs...

I also don't like that people are saying that Mettle isn't really a song... i think its amazing. I think as part of the album is functions as an outro, and really ties the thing with a bow... but as a stand alone piece, even with the spoken word, i think its an amazing and beautiful song.

I think musically Mettle gives me the most chills, I love it, so hard to compare it to other songs on the cd because it is so different. Like I have said it is like "Something in the way" by Nirvana

The song does move from a very tight, staccato beat with closed hi-hat and snare to a more fluid, open section with ride cymbal. If it is out of sync, it is by just the teensiest amount, but the switch from hi-hat to ride cymbal might make it sound moreso, especially on the lower quality stream rip.

I def hear it now although in the copy I have its at about the 2:38 mark.
